At Hawthorn Primary,  due to the nature of our deaf resource base, we have chosen to teach British Sign Language as part of our whole school curriculum.

We are lucky enough to have a deaf teacher who visits school weekly to teach our pupils BSL. Our aim is for some students to achieve their Level 1 BSL qualification by the time they finish at Hawthorn.

As a school, we have adopted the Frank Barns BSL curriculum, starting with some flexibility as we transition in to BSL as a skill.
