  • Summer 2 - Money

    Published 04/06/26, by Oliver Davies

Today we started a new topic of money!

We started by recapping our knowledge of money, what coins we have and their values from learning all the way back in Year 2.

We then tried to combine these different coins to make different amounts.

We went into Mr Davies’ shop and had to create amounts of money to buy the items with the exact change. Our challenge was to try and do it with the least number of coins possible.

  • Summer 1 - Flower Dissection

    Published 04/06/26, by Oliver Davies

In Science, we have been exploring the topic of plants. We have looked at all of the different parts that make up a plant and their function. We have found out that each part is just as important as each other, with them all having important jobs that keep the flower alive and functioning.

In this lesson, we had the challenge of dissecting the plants into each of their separate parts; the flower, stem, leaves and roots. We had to be really careful when doing this that we didn't break the delicate parts of the plant.

We had great fun in this lesson, and loved getting our hands messy!!

  • Summer 1 - Writing

    Published 04/06/26, by Oliver Davies

In writing, we have been looking at non-chronological reports, and have been exploring their features and they are structured.

We are working towards creating our own non-chronological report about model aircrafts, inspired by the short film 'SOAR' that we have been working on for the past two weeks.

In this lesson we were given sentences and facts that needed to be sorted into groups of similar information. This was to show that when we group information together this will create different paragraphs, each of which need their own subheadings to show what they are about.

    Published 04/06/26, by Oliver Davies

In DT lessons we have been practising the skill of sewing. We have learnt two different skills: running stitch and cross stitch. At first, we practised using plastic needles and plastic boards so we could have a go at both of the methods. Have a look at the pictures to see us when we first tried sewing, to then our finished products.

Don't our cushions look amazing!!!  We loved this topic!

  • Art - Volcanic Inspiration - Spring 1

    Published 01/03/26, by Oliver Davies

Building on our work on Frank Bowling in art, we have explored textures, layers and the use of colours in our own artwork.

In today's lesson we used pictures of volcanoes to identify and create similar colour pallettes that we could use in our final piece. We also explored ways of creating different textures using our paint brush and pieces of tissue paper.

  • Maths - Measuring - Spring 1

    Published 01/03/26, by Oliver Davies

To begin our new topic in maths, Measurement, we went up to the hall to complete a practical activity.

We used metre sticks and rulers to measure different sized lines that had been put on to the floor. We worked collaboratively in pairs to measure each of the lines accurately. It was quite tricky because some of the lines were over 3 metres long! This meant we had to work well as a team and figure out a way to use the metre stick to measure big lines.

  • Science - Soils Experiment - Spring 1

    Published 01/03/26, by Oliver Davies

In our Science lessons we have been looking at the properties and importance of soil.

We planned an investigation to see what happened when we mixed soil with water. We had four different samples of soils to see if something different happened to each of them. Whilst one group completed the water investigation, it gave the other half of the class the opportunity to explore the soils further, and see what they looked like up close. Were they wet? Were they dry? Did they contain anything?

The children loved this experiment. Especially when they could shake the bottles to combine the water and soil sample!

  • Writing - How to look after Bailey

    Published 09/01/26, by Oliver Davies

We have started a new writing topic this week focusing on an explanation text. We are using this as a model text to support us in creating our own explanation text on 'How to look after Bailey'. We spent the lesson researching about how to look after dogs, organising our facts into three sections: Food, Grooming and Exercise. The children really enjoyed this lesson and were able to work with different people around the room to collaborate and share ideas and facts from their research.

I can't wait to read what the children produce!

  • Christmas Games

    Published 09/01/26, by Oliver Davies

The children had a fantastic time working in teams playing Christmas games in the last week of the Autumn term. They worked together to collect candy cane tokens, building their skills of teamwork, decision-making and cooperation. Each team had to nominate people to compete in each game. They played: Candy Cane Drop, Candy Cane Clean Up, Snowman Balance, Snowball Fight, Santa's Sock and Snowball Throw. The children loved the games and worked together amazingly. We even finished off with a team quiz to try and collect even more candy cane tokens.

Everyone had a great afternoon and supported each other. Children were even supporting people on other teams and encouraging them when they found one of the games challenging. What an afternoon of fun!!!

  • Stone Age Art - Watercolours

    Published 25/09/25, by Oliver Davies

The children have been exploring how they created cave paintings in the Stone Age. We used and explored warm colours as these would have been what they were able to create from natural materials.

The children experimented with the watercolours to create lighter and darker shades of the warm colours. They then applied them to Stone Age animals, stick people and handprints, using more water to make lighter tones and less water for darker, bolder shades of the colours.
